Projects & Priorities

Public parks located within Milwaukie city limits are owned by the city and managed by North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District (NCPRD).

Current Projects and Priorities Actively Supported by MPF

  • Upgrading Adventures - One Swing at a Time! - With construction of Milwaukie Bay Park currently on hold, MPF has turned our attention to those elements of Milwaukie’s parks in desperate need up upgrade an repair. Click here to learn more about this campaign.

  • Milwaukie Bay Park - Milwaukie Bay Park (MBP) will be the crown jewel of Milwaukie’s parks system. Though years of hard work have already been invested in the park, a great deal remains to be done before this dream becomes a reality. Over the past few years, we at MPF have focused our fundraising efforts on supporting development of MBP’s planned nature play area. Our Bring Play to Milwaukie Bay campaign created a lot of excitement and support and by 2021, MPF raised more than $60,000 for construction. Early in that year, however, Clackamas County Commissioners placed a hold on the MBP project, stalling construction for the foreseeable future.

The Milwaukie Parks Foundation is committed to supporting the completion of MBP! All money raised for MBP has been set aside and will remain in a high yield savings account dedicated to MBP until the project moves forward again.

  • Balfour Park - Big Changes Coming!! Balfour Park is currently an undeveloped neighborhood pocket park located in Milwaukie’s Ardenwald neighborhood. However, thanks to funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021 and advocacy by State Senator Kathleen Taylor and Representative Karin Power, plus notable fundraising by the Ardenwald/Johnson Creek Neighborhood Association and Milwaukie Parks Foundation this park is now largely, if not fully funded!

The money raised came from nearly a decade of annual plant sales held to raise funds for the park. Through the hard work and dedication of members of the neighborhood association and the MPF Board of Directors (most crucially, Lisa Gunion-Rinker, who tended the plants and organized these sales with love and commitment), $22,603 was delivered to the City of Milwaukie for park development in November 2023!
